An Anthem for Daily Life

Earlier this week I sorted through a stack of CDs and one caught my eye. I haven’t listened to it for some time, perhaps a year or more. It’s called Valley of Vision, a CD of songs inspired by the classic book of Puritan prayers by the same name.

It was beckoning me for a listen. I grabbed it to take along in the car.

These songs are so rich in lyrical truth it was a feast for my soul. I’m not sure why that CD was removed from the rotation, nor do I know why it never made it to my iTunes. (That will soon be remedied!)

One song in particular is so full of passion that I hear it as an anthem for living in daily communion with the Lord. The lyrics are pasted here, but if you get a chance, it’s even better to hear it. Check it out at Sovereign Grace Music.

May it inspire your heart to know this Great God in a deeper way today. He is worthy to be praised!

“O Great God”
Words and music by Bob Kauflin | As recorded on Valley of Vision

O great God of highest heaven
Occupy my lowly heart
Own it all and reign supreme
Conquer every rebel power
Let no vice or sin remain
That resists Your holy war
You have loved and purchased me
Make me Yours forevermore

I was blinded by my sin
Had no ears to hear Your voice
Did not know Your love within
Had no taste for heaven’s joys
Then Your Spirit gave me life
Opened up Your Word to me
Through the gospel of Your Son
Gave me endless hope and peace

Help me now to live a life
That’s dependent on Your grace
Keep my heart and guard my soul
From the evils that I face
You are worthy to be praised
With my every thought and deed
O great God of highest heaven
Glorify Your Name through me
