My book releases (officially) in just about two weeks. After years of development and writing and editing, Comfort Detox is finally a real printed book! The work wasn’t easy, but it is extremely rewarding. And now, the finished work is here; I’m able to hold it in my hands. Surreal is the best word I have to describe it.
Life can be so full that it’s easy to rush by special markers that designate a turning point. The release of a book is one: I was not a published author, and now, I am. (What?!?!?!!?) There is cause to celebrate this milestone, just like we celebrate birthdays, weddings, graduations, retirements, and the like. So we’re having a party.
Even though it feels a little odd to host your own celebration event, I want to gather up my people in one space and say, “We did it!” I may have put words to the page, but my family and friends and coworkers have labored with me all the way. They have listened to my excitement and nerves and fears and frustrations. They have sent me encouraging texts and cards and gifts. They have shared their lives and dreams and struggles with me—and even allowed me to include their stories in the book for the edification of the readers.
I don’t want any of us to miss out on a chance to stop and observe this special marker. I want to show gratitude for my people and to remember that this book was a group effort. I could not have made it without others. If you are in the area Tuesday evening, February 7, stop by the Bloomington Coffee Hound any time between 7 and 8:30. We’ll be there, eating treats and sipping delicious coffee. You can buy a book (if you like), and I can sign it (if you like)—and if you already have a book and want it signed, bring it in. Around 7:25/7:30, I’ll say a few words, do a short reading from the book, and draw names for the giveaway. Come when you can, stay as long as you like—it’s an open house, and there will be plenty of people in and out to chat with. All are welcome!
I hope you can stop by and say hello!
