Today is Day 1 of my beach retreat. I cannot tell you how excited I am! I was teary on the plane with gratitude for God’s goodness to me, that I have the blessing of such an experience with two dear friends.
What exactly is a beach retreat, you may wonder?
First and foremost, it is a week of slowing down to meet with God. What a luxury it is to have extended time to be in the Word, to walk the beach with the Lord, to journal and pray through inner-things that were on the back-burner.
Second, this beach retreat is about time with my friends. We talk about what we are learning, where we are struggling, how God is stretching us. These are two of my lodge ladies, who know me through and through—the good, the bad, and the hideous—and they still want to hang around with me.
Third, this trip is about the beach and books. Daily we sit near the ocean to hear its soothing voice and to soak up the sun’s healing rays (I use plenty of sunblock to keep myself from getting too much sun). The books play a major role in this beach retreat. I have brought nine, plus my Bible. Overkill, you think? Well, I want to read all of them, but I doubt that is even possible. I did leave some books at home, and I miss them.
The downside to this trip is that the hubster is not with me. He’s holding down the fort at home and is wonderfully supportive of me leaving to recharge.
I’m off now to see the ocean. As the week goes on, I’ll give some snippets from the fun and relaxation, and I’ll let you know which books I’m consuming.
