Read-a-Thon Hour 18 Mini-Challenge: Rereading

By April 19, 2009 culture No Comments

Jessica at The Blue Stocking Society has issued a challenge for Hour 18. I’m answering question #2:

2. Go back to your blog, and give us a list of your top favorite rereads of all time.  You know, those books that you can go to time and time again for comfort and escape. Again, pictures are good.

My favorite rereads are:

1) A Horse and His Boy, C. S. Lewisimg_3418

What can I say about this story? The imagery of God being ever near in the midst of our lostness and confusion is an extreme comfort to me. Lewis created an exceptional portrayal of Almighty God’s nearness evoking both comfort and reverence is something that I go back to time and again.

2) A Hunger for God, John Piper

A book that God used to awaken me to my tendency to settle in life for things that are of little lasting value, calling me to supreme satisfaction and joy in knowing Him.

3) Ella Minnow Pea, Mark Dunn

A fabulously witty and creative take on language and society’s bent to create rules for the masses to jump through.
