When All That’s Broken Is Made New Again

Day 20, Chapter 20

At this point in our search for Light in John’s Gospel, we’ve seen and heard all sorts of amazing things from Jesus. But here, in this chapter? It culminates in His power over death—the thing that haunts us, stalks us, worries us. Jesus dies and comes to life once again. That’s a new one.

And it means that everything Jesus did and said is valid—His promises to give life, to redeem us, to make us new. Everything that is broken and decaying in us and in this world since the Fall has been rendered powerless because of Jesus. John wrote down much of what Jesus did and said for one reason:

“Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.” (John 20:30–31, ESV)

Today, I’m grateful—that John wrote about the Light of the world so that I might back in His rays and believe.
