EVERY Mission Can Be Irresistible to Donors… Even Yours!

Let’s talk about the mission comparison trap. It sounds something like this:

“Our nonprofit doesn’t tackle a crisis like famine or poverty. How do we show donors our work matters?”

I get the concern. However, every mission matters and donor education is a big part of your team’s job. Here are three things to keep in mind if you are feeling sheepish about your cause:

#1 Some Encouragement

Donors’ hearts are big enough to care about many causes, including yours. There’s plenty of room (and funding) for everyone. Seriously! Your donors are out there—when your team does the needed work, donors will partner with you.

#2 Some Advice

Your org’s impact isn’t defined by someone else’s mission. Every nonprofit solves a real problem that helps real people—yours included.

#3 Some Direction

You need to get super clear on the good your org is doing. Go deep into your own mission and impact by asking:

What’s the outcome of our work?

✨ How do lives change?

✨ If we disappeared, what vital support would be lost?

Your answers are pieces of a clear, compelling, inspiring story that will click with donors. It’s step one of making your mission irresistible to donors!

Making your mission irresistible to donors is THE WORK. Invest your time and energy into that, and you will grow more confident about the good work your org can do when your mission is fully funded.
