Knowing What to Change Is Half the Battle

You know the saying, if you want different results, you’ll need to do things differently? As much as I believe that to be true, different is hard.

When I need to choose different, it helps me to explore what’s happening now and what change I want to see in the future. I have to ask myself a lot of questions and get honest about what’s working, what isn’t, and why.

You may want different results from your org’s donor engagement efforts. Maybe you want to grow your impact but need more donor dollars. Maybe you want to grow a certain donor segment. Maybe you want your team to operate without so much last-minute frenzy.

Whatever change you want to see, you’ll have to explore why your team is operating the way that it is and what results you want to see instead. You’ll need to ask yourself a lot of questions, like…

Does your team…

❎ Invest the same amount of time and effort on every donor segment?

❎ Know which activities are worth their efforts… and which aren’t?

❎ Get lost in the daily/weekly frenzy to create the next email, the next newsletter, the next social post?

❎ Hope social media or community events will close the annual fund gap?

❎ Know how to explain your mission from the donors’ POV?

❎ Know how to prioritize donors who are most passionate about the cause?

❎ Have customized journeys for each donor segment that prioritize relationships?

❎ Know how to inspire donors to give year after year?

Questions like these will help you clearly assess what’s happening on your team, and why. And the answers are great motivators for embracing something different so you get different results.

If you’d like to do things differently to get those different results, reach out to set a change chat.

We can work together to implement a different approach to donor engagement that meets each donor where they are and invites them to make a measurable, meaningful impact for others.
